Derbyshire firm's long johns still selling well after 160 years

Designer knitwear firm John Smedley - based in Matlock, Derbyshire - has been making long johns since 1847 but it says the product is still proving popular with customers.

Ian Maclean, managing director, said their biggest sales for the thermal underwear were now in China and Russia.

This year, staff at the factory in Lea Mills have created new styles and incorporated more colour into the thermal underwear in order to appeal to a younger customer.

Kylie Pentelow reports.
