Evelyn Gibbs murals to be restored

Murals by war artist Evelyn Gibbs are to be restored after they were discovered behind a false ceiling.

The biblical paintings, which were thought to have been destroyed, at St Martin's Church in Bilborough, Nottingham were found by electricians in 2009 and will now be renovated with Heritage Lottery funding.

Church warden Hilary Wheat said: "I think there is quite a lot of interest in these paintings and they will have national significance."

Simon Ward reports.
