Retirement home love-birds to tie the knot

A pair of love-birds are to tie the knot after a whirlwind romance started in their retirement home.

Mary Shingler, 80, and her 79-year-old fiance Harold Gough met at the Oakland Retirement Village in Swadlincote, Derbyshire, after an introduction by mutual friend, 100-year-old Elsie Payne.

Mr Gough proposed just a few months after they first met - although he did not get down on one knee for fear he would not be able to get back up again.

Sarah Teale reports.
