Damien Hirst's 'pregnant woman' arrives in Ilfracombe

A 65ft (20m) bronze sculpture of a pregnant woman wielding a sword by artist Damien Hirst has arrived in the north Devon resort of Ilfracombe.

Named Verity, the statue "modern allegory of truth and justice" was brought into town on the back of a lorry.

On loan for 20 years, the sculpture will be erected on the pier over the next seven to 10 days.

It is hoped Verity's arrival in Ilfracombe will attract more tourists to the seaside resort.

Because of the height of the structure, it has been subjected to wind tunnel testing to ensure it can withstand high winds and sea spray.
