Castle Drogo begins restoration work

The valuable content of a Devon castle is being packed away to allow restoration work to begin.

Castle Drogo on the edge of Dartmoor is undergoing a major restoration programme to make the castle watertight.

The work, which will cost £11m, will take five years to complete.

As it is being done in stages, the castle will remain open to the public.

Castle Drogo was the last to be built in England, but historians have said its design was flawed with leaking being an on-going problem.

Building work took place around 1910 but as early as 1915 there were concerns about water leaking into the castle.
