Volunteers plant banker's donated bulbs

Hundreds of volunteers have started the task of planting one million daffodil bulbs in and around Sidmouth in East Devon.

The plants were donated by a Canadian investment banker who died six years ago.

Keith Owen regularly visited Sidmouth, where his mother lived, and had planned to retire there.

However, in 2007, at the age of 69, he was diagnosed with terminal cancer and told he had weeks to live.

Mr Owen decided to leave his entire savings, about £2.3m, to a Sidmouth-based voluntary countryside conservation society.
