Devon and Cornwall beaches closed amid bad weather

Cars have been moved by large waves and people have been advised not to enter the sea at a number of beaches after a big swell and strong winds hit the south-west of England.

Several vehicles were battered by the waves, which crashed over the sea wall at Ilfracombe Harbour, in north Devon.

Beaches including Croyde and some in Newquay, Cornwall, have been "red flagged" by the RNLI because of the dangerous conditions.

The charity said Tolcarne and Porth in Newquay were the only beaches currently open.

Red flags warn people not to enter the water because of the dangerous conditions.
