Fingringhoe Wick: Move to protect fragile salt marshes

Efforts have begun to expand and protect a rare but important wildlife habitat in Essex, unchanged since the last ice age.

The mudflats on the Colne Estuary, home to hundreds of thousands of birds, are recognised nationally and internationally.

Above the mudflats at Fingringhoe Wick are salt marshes which protect the coast by absorbing waves and floodwater, but they are fragile and shrinking.
