Driver filmed moving cones on A12 roadworks in Essex fined

A driver stuck in a traffic jam has been fined after being filmed moving cones from a sectioned-off area of a dual carriageway before trying to cut through to another lane.

Footage was taken by another driver in stationary traffic on the northbound A12, at Marks Tey, in Essex on Tuesday, 18 April.

It showed the 66-year-old woman, from south London, getting out of her car, moving the cones, then attempting to drive through the coned-off roadworks section in order to join a lane of free-flowing traffic.

National Highways said it issued the driver with a conditional caution and fined her £100, with the money going to a road worker safety charity.

The footage also showed a highways worker stepping in to order her back into the lane she had come from.
