Efforts to protect forest from disease

In October, tens of thousands of larch and sweet chestnut trees were felled in the Forest of Dean due to larch tree disease.

After the large-scale felling to prevent the spread of fungus Phytophthora ramorum, the Forestry Commission has turned its focus on ash dieback.

Ash dieback has already hit trees in the east and north of England and it is causing further worry for forestry experts in Gloucestershire.
