Badger cull opponents out as second stage believed to start

Anti-badger cull campaigners have been out in force on the night the second stage of the cull in the west of England is believed to have begun.

The first stage of the government pilot cull started in Somerset last week and Gloucestershire Police have now said their badger cull policing operation has been at "full capacity" since Tuesday - though no arrests had been made.

About 5,000 badgers are expected to be killed in controlled shootings over six weeks in a bid to curb bovine TB.

Anti-cull protesters have vowed to disrupt the shootings and were out in Gloucestershire on Tuesday night as news emerged the marksmen were due to be starting work - but one group the BBC filmed did not come across any signs of culling.
