Giant otter Akuri set to swap Hampshire for Trinidad

A giant otter is to swap Hampshire for the West Indies as he prepares to play his part in a new breeding programme.

Akuri currently lives at the New Forest Wildlife Centre in Ashurst, near Southampton, but will soon be on his way to Trinidad.

There are thought to be as few as 1,000 giant otters left in the world.

It is the first time one has been sent abroad from the UK to help protect the species.
