UK dock operators battling to run Marchwood Military Port

Some of the UK's biggest commercial dock operators are battling to take charge of Marchwood Military Port in Hampshire.

ABP, which runs Southampton Docks, and Peel Ports, which runs the ports in Liverpool, are among those who have expressed an interest in running the 300-acre site.

Councillors were briefed earlier on the sell-off of the port, which has been shipping military vehicles and supplies for 70 years.

But some residents have expressed concerns about the impact the increased use of the port could have on the roads and railway line into Marchwood.
