New Forest bike hire plan is rejected by authority

A scheme designed to encourage families to cycle in the New Forest has been rejected.

The New Forest Park Authority rejected plans to introduce a £2m cycle hire scheme, similar to London's "Boris" bikes, at a meeting on Tuesday.

Olympian Chris Boardman had backed the scheme, and urged supporters to sign a petition, external.

But Councillor David Harrison, from the authority, said other members weren't prepared to take a risk.
