Worcester braces itself for higher water levels

Worcester is bracing itself for river levels to rise later this week despite the River Severn already bursting its banks.

On Monday, the city centre traffic bridge reopened to two following flood closures on Sunday.

The River Severn is at its highest level since the 2007 floods and the Environment Agency is warning it will continue to rise.

Steve Cooper, who lives near the bridge, said he was relieved flood barriers seem to be working, while Jon Fraser from the county council said roads are being reopened when possible.

Campaigner Mary Dhonau said more needed to be done to prevent flooding in the future.
