Weight loss surgery helps woman to shed nine stone in a year
A woman has lost nearly half her body weight in one year after having a gastric bypass operation.
We spoke to 44-year-old Michelle Clayton from Pershore, Worcestershire in February 2016, as she was preparing for surgery at the Worcestershire Royal Hospital.
Twelve months later she has shed nine stone (58kg) and no longer has type 2 diabetes.
On average, gastric bypass surgery costs the NHS £6,000 but doctors say it can pay for itself in two to three years because patients no longer need treatment for associated illnesses.
Ms Clayton described the operation as "life-changing" and said she was about one stone away from her goal weight.
