Bridlington plans to twin with fictional Dad's Army town

Plans are afoot to twin an East Yorkshire seaside resort with the fictional Dad's Army town of Walmington-on-Sea.

A new film of the BBC TV hit were partly shot in Bridlington's old town last year.

The town's cobbled high street transformed into wartime 1940s Britain with cast members Bill Nighy, Toby Jones, Sir Tom Courtenay and Sir Michael Gambon seen amid more than 300 extras, some of whom were locals.

Now civic leaders want to make a firm association with Dad's Army ahead of the film's official release next year.
