Tracing Guernsey prisoner's family in Kent
An academic researching the deaths of Channel Islanders at the hands of the Nazis is searching for the family of a Kent man who died in a prison camp in Bavaria in 1945.
The horror of Nazi concentration camps in Europe during World War Two has been well documented but it is less well known that Channel Islanders became victims of the camps too.
Sidney Ashcroft, who was born and grew up in Tunbridge Wells, became a victim of the Nazis while he was living in occupied Guernsey.
Now Cambridge University academic Dr Gilly Carr wants to trace members of his family in Kent as she tries to piece together more information about the deaths of Channel Islanders, ahead of a new memorial to them being created.
