Dismantling Dungeness A nuclear power station

Work has begun to dismantle Dungeness A power station which has been in operation for 40 years.

Dungeness A on the Kent coast stopped producing electricity in December 2006.

The nuclear fuel was removed six years later and taken to Sellafield for reprocessing.

The site will not be completely cleared until 2097, when the reactors are safe enough to remove.

BBC South East's Piers Hopkirk reports.
