West Yorkshire sports project 'keeps crime down'
A project in West Yorkshire which uses sport to keep young people away from crime has been hailed a success.
My Sporting Chance has seen 37 children trained and mentored by professional rugby league players from Keighley Cougars.
Those who have taken part in the past 18 months are said to have returned to school and stayed out of trouble.
West Yorkshire Police Commissioner Mark Burns-Williamson, who has plans for a local proceeds of crime fund, said the money should go towards projects like My Sporting Chance.
Project leader Mary Calvert said the initiative allows those who take part to understand more how their behaviour impacts on others.
