Escaped chimps cause Twycross Zoo closure
Eight chimpanzees got into a secure area within their enclosure on Thursday leading to the temporary closure of Twycross Zoo in Leicestershire.
Zoo director Sharon Redrobe said staff had been feeding the chimps breakfast when they escaped from the day area into the keeper's corridor and "started ransacking the cupboards and running up and down with tools".
The zoo remained closed until animals were encouraged back into their enclosure with ice cream and fizzy drinks.
