Ashya King proton plea from young patient's mother

A mother who took her son abroad for cancer treatment said the decision saved his life and could do the same for Ashya King, external.

Ashya's parents took the five-year-old, who has a brain tumour, from hospital in Southampton to Spain, where they have been held in custody.

Ros Barnes, from Leicestershire, raised £130,000 to take her child Alex to the US to have proton therapy treatment when he was four.

She said she sympathised with Ashya's family while Alex, now 10, said he felt sorry for Ashya and hoped he would soon see his parents and get the treatment he needed.
