East Midlands council told 'not to clear litter'

A council in the East Midlands has been told it cannot clean up rubbish along a main road because it would disrupt traffic.

North West Leicestershire District Council said the Highways Agency has prevented it from removing litter on the A50 because it would cause disruption on the network where roadworks are taking place.

This comes as other councils across the East Midlands have expressed concerns about the amount of rubbish being dumped along its roads, reports Mike O'Sullivan.
