Family's donor appeal on Twitter

A London family's appeal on Twitter for a bone marrow donor for their sick mother has led to a rise in the number of Jewish people signing up.

The Antony Nolan Trust said Jonni and Caroline Berger's appeal has led to 180 Jewish people signing up in the first two weeks of January, compared to 31 during the same period last year.

Their mother Sharon Berger, from Harrow, north-west London, needs a bone marrow transplant within five weeks.

Finding a donor is proving difficult because her best match is likely to be another Ashkenazi Jew.
