London to get 'cycle Crossrail'

London Mayor Boris Johnson has announced a £913m plan to create a so-called "cycle Crossrail".

The proposals include putting a cycle lane along the A40 Westway, more segregated cycle tracks and more 20mph limits on major roads.

The route is expected open by 2016. However only £300m of funding is guaranteed until 2015.

The London Assembly welcomed the plan but the transport committee chairwoman said £913m was not enough.
