Millions spent on hotels for homeless

Westminster Council has spent more than £3m in the last six months, putting homeless people into three and four star hotels.

The council has blamed government cuts to housing benefit for a rise in the number of homeless people it has to house and says it is trying to tackle the size of the bill.

The government said there was no excuse for putting families into hotels.

BBC London's Political Correspondent Karl Mercer spoke with Sarah and Jason Sallis, Westminster Councillor Jonathan Glanz and solicitor Jane Pritchard.
