Bridges 'could make pollution worse' in London

Plans to build two new river crossings could make pollution levels in London even worse, say environmental campaigners.

There are plans for bridges in Silvertown and Gallions Reach to help ease traffic congestion.

Commuter Janette Withey says congestion impacts her business while Terry Grant, a Bexleyheath resident says bridges would increase travel and pollution.

Jenny Bates, from Friends of the Earth, says alternative proposals should be used rather than building more roads while Dr Ian Mudway, from King's College London, says the bridges could make air pollution worse.

Edmund King, president of the AA, says it is better for traffic to be moving rather than have vehicles spewing out pollution when they are sat in traffic.
