Cardiac implant on NHS 'could reduce heart failure deaths'

More patients in London will now be able to access life-saving heart devices following new health guidelines.

The implant can reduce the risk of death from heart failure by up to 40% compared to drug therapy alone.

It will now be available to people at risk even before suffering a cardiac arrest.

BBC London reporter Victoria Graham spoke to cardiac patient Derek Reid and Prof Martin Cowie, a consultant cardiologist at the Royal Brompton Hospital.
