Metropolitan Police to recruit staff living in London

New recruits for the Metropolitan Police will be considered only if they have lived for three of the last six years in London.

It is a radical new attempt to increase the number of black and Asian officers to make the Met's ranks more reflective of the people they serve.

The Met hopes to recruit 5,000 new officers by 2016. But critics say it is unfair on would-be officers who happen to live outside the capital.
