New app aims to identify bird songs

A mobile phone app that recognises which species of bird is singing is being developed by a researcher at Queen Mary University.

The aim is to use the new technology to bring people closer to the natural world and also to use the data collected for research on bird numbers.

Dan Stowell, a research fellow at Queen Mary University, explains the difficulties of identifying birds, while ornithologist David Darrell-Lambert explains his hope for the app.

Florence Wilkinson, co-founder of Warblr, explains what impact the app could have on conservation.
