Tower Hamlets deputy mayor 'will get on with job'

The deputy mayor of an east London borough has said he will "get on with the job he has been elected to do" after the mayor of Tower Hamlets was found guilty of electoral fraud.

An Election Commissioner declared last year's poll void and said Tower Hamlets mayor Lutfur Rahman must vacate his post immediately.

Tower Hamlets deputy mayor councillor Oliur Rahman said: "The people of this borough will come to their own views about this judgement".

Four voters alleged he used "corrupt and illegal practices" in last year's election, which must now be re-run. Mr Rahman, who denied any wrong-doing, has been banned from standing again.
