Tower Hamlets elects Labour's John Biggs as new mayor

Labour's John Biggs has become the directly elected mayor of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets in a re-run poll.

He lost last year to Tower Hamlets First candidate Lutfur Rahman, who was convicted of electoral fraud and removed from office in April.

Mr Biggs won 32,754 votes, including second preference votes, and beat independent candidate Rabina Khan.

He said the borough now needed to "move forwards".

BBC London's Karl Mercer reports.
