Watch: The legacy of London's former City Hall

Proposals have been put forward to modernise London's former City Hall by removing its famous glass shell and making the building more energy efficient.

City Hall was designed by Sir Norman Foster but it did not win fans everywhere: former mayor Ken Livingstone, famously called it the "glass testicle" while his successor Boris Johnson, referred to as the "glass gonad".

The Greater London Authority (GLA) moved out of the building to Newham in 2021, saying it was becoming too expensive to lease.

The planning application for what comes next is expected to be submitted in January.

Karl Mercer takes a look back at its history.
