Watch: Blind teenage pianist brings music to hospital patients

Chapman Shum, 13 has flooded the reception to the Royal London Hospital with beautiful music.

Because of a rare disease, he was born blind. He is also autistic, so he finds communicating through speech difficult. He said that one reason he plays music is to inspire others.

“Because of a rare disease I was born blind and have a learning and speaking difficulties but I’m a good pianist,” he says.

He passed his Grade 8 piano exam with distinction when he was aged 11. His dad, Chun Shum, noticed an innate talent in his son at a young age.

The 13-year-old recently performed the 90th recital in a programme at the hospital in Whitechapel.
