Great Yarmouth crackdown on illegal cigarette trade

Cigarettes worth thousands of pounds have been seized in an operation to combat the sale of illegal cigarettes and packs of tobacco on sale in Great Yarmouth.

Norfolk Trading Standards officers led the raids on five shops and homes.

A sniffer dog found caches of cigarettes behind walls, beneath a staircase, behind a gas storage heater and in the boot of a car.

It is estimated trade in illegal cigarettes costs the government about £1.8bn ever year in lost taxes.
