Pub opening hours extended in England and Wales

It is 35 years since bars in England and Wales stopped having to call last orders for an afternoon break.

Licensing rules were changed in 1988, allowing them to extend opening hours to 11:00 to 23:00.

Before this, they generally had to close between 15:00 and 17:30.

A TV report from the BBC archives shows a Norwich landlord and his customers welcoming the change.
