Northamptonshire pothole delays cut road-mending bill
Transport Secretary Patrick McCloughlin said potholes were a big and growing problem when he visited Northampton where delaying repairs is saving the county council money.
Councils have been given extra money by the government to tackle the problem and Mr McCloughlin said it was up to local authorities to spend the money wisely.
Northamptonshire has been cutting its road repairs bill by leaving potholes to deteriorate then completely resurfacing the road, which works out to be more cost-effective.
