'Flashing blue light' driver footage released

Footage of a driver who fitted a flashing blue light on his Vauxhall Astra has been released.

Northampton Magistrates' Court was told that Martin Chapman, 35, of Connaught Street, The Mounts, had been spotted by road cameras using the flashing light on 38 separate occasions.

In one instance he was seen narrowly missing a cyclist as he drove through the wrong side of a busy junction on Cliftonville Road in Northampton on 6 July.

Chapman pleaded guilty to five counts of using a vehicle fitted with a "blue warning beacon" without permission and was found guilty of nine further driving offences.

He will be sentenced at Northampton Crown Court in February.
