Glamis Hall: Wellingborough elderly care centre made profitable

Volunteers who took over the running of a Northamptonshire day care centre after a council called the site "no longer fit for purpose" say they are running at a profit two years on.

Glamis Hall was closed in 2014 following cuts to Wellingborough Borough Council's social care budget.

Freehold of the building, on Goldsmith Road, was granted to volunteers a year later after they presented a business plan to run it as a community amenity. They also managed to obtain a grant for refurbishment.

Now the centre provides hot food and entertainment to more than 180 elderly people a week.

The volunteer group, Glamis Hall for All, says the profits raised are being put straight back into the centre.
