Didcot A Power Station switches off after 43 years

Didcot A, the coal-fired power station in Oxfordshire, has been disconnected from the national grid after 43 years of service.

It generated its last megawatt (MW) of electricity at 14:00 GMT on Friday with nine months of decommissioning starting on 31 March.

The station's six iconic cooling towers will eventually be pulled down removing the notable landmark from the Oxfordshire skyline.
