St Giles' Fair: Nearly 400 years of fun

St Giles' Fair in the heart of Oxford winds up tonight, a celebration dating back nearly 400 years.

Thousands of people from across the county are attracted each year, making it one of the highlights of the Oxford events calendar.

The event began in 1625 as a humble parish festival to celebrate the feast of the patron saint St Giles.

It developed into a toy and children's fair, before advances in transport and engineering during Victorian times helped it become the fair known today.
