Solihull Hospital inquiry 'overlooking' patients

Some patients say they have been largely "ignored" by an inquiry into breast cancer care in Solihull.

The review is looking at breast cancer care at Solihull Hospital after concerns were raised over procedures carried out by surgeon Ian Paterson between 1994 and 2011.

Mr Paterson was suspended by the General Medical Council last year and a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the surgery is ongoing.

The Heart of England NHS Trust said patients had been repeatedly approached to come forward and take part in the independent inquiry led by Sir Ian Kennedy.

Solicitor Kashmir Uppal, however, responding to an article published in The Times, said many of the 350 patients she represented had not been approached.

Sir Ian's report is expected to be published in two months and the lawyer said patients were very much at the "centre" of his investigations.
