New £1m library opens in Stafford

A new library, costing £1m, has opened in Stafford.

The facility will provide access to 3D printing, e-books and over one million books, Staffordshire County Council said.

More than 3,000 people signed a petition against the move from Shire Hall to the new base at Staffordshire Place.

Labour councillor Maureen Compton told BBC Midlands Today's Amy Cole she was against the move out of the town centre and people would "have to get used to it".

Conservative councillor Ben Adams said the county needed "flexible modern library spaces that suit the way people live now", describing the new building as a "perfect example".
