Fly-tippers face on-the-spot fines up to £400

A Staffordshire beauty spot blighted by fly-tipping has warned that new on-the-spot fines to deter people from dumping rubbish, aren't enough.

George Williams, Estate Manager for the Enville Estate which borders Staffordshire and Shropshire, said two years ago it cost the estate £7,000 to clear 32 tonnes of rubbish left by fly-tippers.

The government said the new fines would give local authorities greater powers to tackle the crime by issuing penalty notices of between £150 and £400 to those caught in the act.
