Suffolk Ultraman contender undeterred by disease

A triathlete training for a punishing Ultraman competition said he was determined Crohn's disease would not stop him from competing.

Alan Macpherson, from Bury St Edmunds, is flying off to Hawaii to take part in the Ultraman World Championships as Britain's only representative.

The competition takes place over three days, starting with a six-mile (9km) swim and a 90-mile (144km) bike ride. The second day contenders ride 170 miles (273km) and finish with a 52-mile (83km) run on the third day.
