Southwold Lifeboat crewman recalls sea rescue drama

A lifeboat man who helped to rescue dozens of swimmers in trouble during a charity swim off Suffolk on Sunday said it had been a dramatic afternoon.

More than 130 swimmers got into difficulty during Southwold's Pier-to-Pub swim.

Paul Barker said the lifeboat crew was kept very busy pulling 58 people from the water and it was lucky that no-one had suffered anything more serious than cold and tiredness.

The organiser of the swim said starting the race was the "wrong decision".
