Street operation to tackle Ipswich truants

Police have been out on the streets of Ipswich in an operation to tackle high levels of truancy in Suffolk.

The county, which is near the bottom of national league tables for attainment, has some of the worst truancy figures in the country.

The parents of truants can be fined £60 each. In extreme cases they can be sent to prison.
