Pakefield beach explosion after World War Two device revealed

An old minesweeping marker revealed by coastal erosion at a popular holiday site was made safe through a controlled explosion.

The device, originally thought to be a bomb, was unearthed as high tides claimed metres of cliff during the weekend at Pakefield in Suffolk.

It was detonated by an Explosive Ordnance Disposal team, part of the British Army.

The erosion led to a number of caravan homes close to the cliff edge being evacuated.

HM Coastguard Lowestoft has advised people to stay way from the "unstable and sandy cliffs... they can be extremely dangerous."
