Clandon Park House: Earl of Onslow 'will never forget' fire
The 8th Earl of Onslow says he will "never forget" the fire which engulfed his ancestral home - Clandon Park House - in April.
Speaking to BBC Surrey, Rupert Onslow said he watched orange flames through 44 windows across four floors.
Now he says the Grade-I listed mansion, which was built for Lord Onslow in the 1720s, should be left as a ruin.
"Clandon has been lost. It's a tragedy. It was my ancestral home, but it's gone," the Earl said.
The estate was passed down through generations of the family until it was left to the National Trust in 1956.
