How Pickles saved the 1966 World Cup

As England prepares to mark the 50th anniversary of its only triumph in the World Cup, one man has recalled the moment his dog saved the trophy four months earlier.

In March 1966, Pickles, a black-and-white border collie, began sniffing around something tied in newspaper in bushes next to a car in south London.

His owner Dave Corbett tore off the bottom and noticed the words Brazil, West Germany and Uruguay...

It turned out to be the Jules Rimet Trophy, stolen a week earlier.
